Stanley Emanual Shackney died peacefully on July 13, 2014.
He was born in Cali, Columbia on August 23, 1939, to David Issac Shackney and Lillian Zektzer Shackney.
Stanley graduated cum laude from Harvard College with a concentration in Middle Eastern Languages and History receiving his B.A. in 1960. He attended Harvard Medical School and received his M.D. in 1964. Stanley was Senior Research Investigator and Attending Physician in the Medical Oncology Branch at the NIH from 1966 to 1983.
Stanley was a Senior Attending Physician at Allegheny General Hospital and Director at the Laboratory of Cancer Cell Biology and Genetics at the Allegheny-Singer Research Institute in Pittsburgh, PA from 1985 to 2008. He shared his knowledge and guidance with the Carnegie Mellon University computational molecular biology department in the last years of his life.
He co-authored nearly 100 published papers and has made significant contributions to the medical community.
He was married to Judy Hoffmann Shackney and father to Elizabeth Joy Shackney, of Pittsburgh, PA. He was an incredibly loving and devoted husband and dad.
